Protecting Medway's Environment

Medway Liberal Democrats are calling on Medway Council to lead the way to improve environmental standards in the Medway Towns by adopting sensible and consistently applied planning policies which are in line with the surrounding environment. Concentrating new housing developments in areas with good bus and rail links to reduce car usage, and in locations where there is scope to provide decent pedestrian, cycling and public transport connections. There's a growing body of evidence to suggest that there will be an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events with important implications for infrastructure in Medway. It is vital that the Council consider how to improve the resilience of the Medway Towns infrastructure with flooding posing the greatest risk.

Support needed for Medway’s town centres

Medway Liberal Democrats are calling on Medway Council to commit resources to improve all of the area's local town centres, not just Chatham. To do this, our town centres must be attractive, accessible and safe.

The five options discussed in early 2018 showed three sites as preferable (Ashford, Tunbridge Wells and Medway), Darent Valley being less preferable and Maidstone as the worst, with Ashford, Tunbridge Wells and Medway providing the best geographical distribution to serve the population and qualit
