Hoo Consultation

Medway Lib Dems propose major changes to the Road provisions in the HIF consultation

Medway Lib Dems have reviewed the proposals in the Hoo - Routes to Good Growth consultation document and made a comprehensive submission to the HIF Team. The proposals in the consultation document were found to be weak and deemed poor in their effectiveness in serving the residents of Hoo and the surrounding areas. Our proposals are intended to be constructive. In our view the lack of ambition shown, combined with proposals that are unacceptable for a variety of reasons make the highway section far weaker than the proposed rail infrastructure. The proposed flyover at Wainscott is unnecessary and we have objected to it. The use of the existing military road is not a viable option and the junction is very poorly designed. The current proposed changes to the Four Elms Roundabout will not serve the long term needs of Hoo or the surrounding areas of Medway. There is already a traffic flow problem that this roundabout significantly contributes towards, and the predictable increase in traffic from additional housing

Graham Colley LibDem PCC candidate for Kent responding to the news about the loss of HRH Prince Philip

In response to the news about HRH Prince Philip, Graham Colley LibDem PCC candidate for Kent said: "At this time, my heart goes out to the Queen, not as my head of state, but as a fellow being. She has lost not only the husband she loved, but her closest support, confidant and consort. Since learning of the sad news, I have spent time thinking about what HRH Prince Philip meant to me and to all of us. Perhaps, above all, I admired his sense of duty to those in the country of his adoption (he was, after all, in effect, a refugee). Unfortunately, our society appears to have moved from Prince Philip's notion of duty, to promotion of self. To honour him, I believe we should try, in our individual lives, to show that sense of duty to others and to our society." ENDS
