In a recent speech, Tim Farron, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) raised concerns over the loss of farmers, connecting the loss with the ability to look after the environment, natural landscapes biodiversity, and the ability to produce food.

Medway Liberal Democrats have discovered damning evidence that Medway Council are cutting down or removing more trees in our streets than they are replanting. Our Freedom of Information request revealed that from 2013 until 2022, Medway Council have felled or removed 2,609 mature trees from their land but only replanted 844. So, in the last decade Medway has seen a loss of 1765 mature trees in our streets and parks.
New figures reveal only a tiny fraction of slashed EU subsidies went to agriculture businesses last year. The government last year launched of the sustainable farming incentive (SFI). This paid farmers for looking after their soil. Last year, subsidies were cut by an average of 22% for farmers, only 0.44% of the promised budget was spent on SFI.
