Nicholas Chan

A liberal, democratic voice for Chatham and Aylesford

Nicholas knows what it’s like to struggle and how a fair deal can help people achieve so much more. Being brought up single-handedly by his mother, he and his sister saw her work hard to give them the best starts in life. He shows his graditude to her by fighting for social justice, helping out in a legal clinic where he can advise families and assist with unfairness from landlords.

Born in Hong Kong, his family was also particularly affected by challenging regimes which defy our national security and the British way of life. That is why he is working to restore the UK’s position as a leader in international development, Human rights must be at the heart of trade agreements. He is working with policy makers to stop trade with manufacturers that use forced labour  - such as some factories in Xinjiang - and better control of arms exports to countries with poor human rights records.

Nicholas undertook his psychology training from the University of Western Australia

Fairness has stagnated in the last 14 years under Conservative governments. Whether I’m talking to people in the Chatham and Aylesford community about a more effective social care and health plan, speaking with young people at Medway Youth Conference about a better system to protect apprenticeships and employment or to the rural Aylesford farming community about a more stable agricultural policy and fair trade, everyone agrees that change is crucial and a fairer deal needed for everyone.
