TIME TO GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT
Medway's Lib Dem leader has broken ranks with party policy by backing an in-out referendum on Europe.
Cllr. Geoff Juby admitted the results were "very disappointing" and suggested it was time to give people "what they want".
He said, "It's disappointing that most people want to come out of Europe, but I believe in a democracy. We should have the vote and that it should be earlier rather than later.
We need to give the public the chance to vote for what they want. Businesses and the political elite want to stay in Europe but the public want to come out."
He backed Nick Clegg to stay as Lib Dem leader, adding: "I can't see anybody doing any better."
"The main thing is to concentrate on elections next year, but UKIP are on a roll. The public wanted change, and they don't think the three main parties have got anything to offer. They see UKIP as the party of change."
"Yes I should be doing their chances down but I have to be realistic. Our people at the top are not fighting hard enough and they are leaving it to us."
