Selection of candidate for Parliamentary constituency of Gillingham and Rainham

Medway Liberal Democrats are proud to announce that they have selected Paul Chaplin as their parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Gillingham and Rainham.

Paul was born and brought up in Gillingham and Rainham and attended the Howard school. On leaving school he started work at Chatham Naval Base then went on afterwards to study pharmacy. For the past 20 years his job has been as an auditor to the medical profession, and in his spare time he volunteers as an emergency medic. He also serves the local community by sitting on the clinical commissioning group's urgent care management panel as well as the medicines management review panel. We can think of no better person to help in keeping an eye on our hospital and on the GP services in Gillingham and Rainham. Paul has been taking an interest in education by joining one of our local secondary schools as a governor/advisory board member, and he is proud of the education record of the Liberal Democrats in government in introducing the 'Pupil Premium' for children from low income families and the introduction of free school meals for younger children.

Having lived here all his life Paul wishes to restore to Gillingham and Rainham the pride which residents had in the towns before they became just a part of Medway, though he does acknowledge the considerable investment benefits which Medway Council has been able to obtain for the area.

Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Cllr. Geoff Juby, has welcomed Paul's selection as a Parliamentary candidate and has said, 'It is great to put forward someone who is not a professional politician, and who serves the people of Gillingham and Rainham in so many ways. I am looking forward to Paul making great inroads into the Gillingham & Rainham vote and presenting an opportunity for our electorate to vote for sensible policies.
