Post Office Account Extended
Gillingham South LibDem, Cllrs. Geoff Juby, and Sheila Kearney, Chairman Tony Jeacock and Vice Chair, Chris Sams are delighted with LibDem Pensions Minister, Steve Webb's announcement that a deal has been signed with Post Office Limited to ensure the Post Office Account, previously due to be withdrawn in 2015, remains available until at least 2022. This new contract protects services for vulnerable pensioners and benefit claimants as well as safeguarding the Post Office network.
The Post Office Account, held by around 2.5 million people nationwide, (many residing in Gillingham South), provides simple banking services for people without a traditional bank current account, thereby ensuring they can still receive those benefits, tax credits, their state pensions and the war pensions to which they are entitled.
People with Post Office Accounts can withdraw money or check their balance at any one of the Post Office's 11,500 branches or using one of the ATM's.
The Post Office Account also provides the option for claimants who need someone else to collect their money for them to apply for a second card, which must be both convenient and most reassuring for our residents in Gillingham South.
Yet another LibDem success!
