Medway Liberal Democrats are campaigning to ‘Shop Local’
Medway Liberal Democrats are calling on residents to head to our town centres in a bid to support its independent businesses. Our campaign aims to aid high streets across Medway which have seen trade seriously impacted in recent years.
Our high streets continue to face difficult times due to both the changing shopping habits of consumers and the wider economic challenges faced by the country. The last few years have had a devastating impact on our independent traders, they faced the pandemic and dealing with the ongoing cost of living and energy crises.
Alan Wells, Medway Liberal Democrats campaigner said, “Across Medway, there’s a community of small businesses that greatly contribute to our high streets. Our Shop Local campaign aims to highlight that supporting our local businesses will ensure our high streets maintains their character and uniqueness.
Our town centres offer a wide and varied choice of retailers with a personalised, tailored shopping experience from local entrepreneurs offering originality to retail and hospitality. By supporting traders, not only are we supporting a local business, we are also investing in our local community and keeping produce alive.
If town centres thrive, we are making them a better place to live, work and visit; and boosting Medway’s economy, while creating and protecting local jobs; reducing our carbon footprint and preserve the heart of our community.”
We are calling on the Council to back the people who run these businesses, encouraging individuals to shop locally. Independently-run businesses are completely reliant on the support of local people in order to survive. They need to know that they have our patronage and that we think local – without that Medway’s high streets will not flourish.
