Medway Liberal Democrats are appalled

Medway Liberal Democrats are appalled over the news that Lewes UKIP Councillor and MEP candidate for the South East, Donna Edmonds was reported on the 5th March as saying that businesses should have the power to turn away women and gay people. It conjures for many the image of the other side of the coin of Jewish businesses in Nazi Germany being banned and then destroyed. And before there is any suggestion that I might be implying that UKIP would wish to put women and gays to death, let me make it absolutely clear, I am not. I am merely trying to point out the appalling bigotry that is so often displayed by UKIP and which cannot be ignored.

With views like those displayed by Ms. Edmonds, one might ask, "how can UKIP think of endorsing such people as MEP candidates?" Well, the answer to that is very simple, UKIP is essentially a party of bigotry.

Both my parents served in the armed forces during WWII to put an end to the bigotry of Nazism and all the evil that it represented. I too served my Queen and country in the armed forces to safeguard our enlightened and tolerant way of life against the threat of a communist takeover by the Eastern Bloc, under which freedom of thought, speech and action would have been denied to us. It sickens me therefore that such views as those adopted by UKIP should still prevail in this day and age.

People of Medway can choose, and indeed must choose on May 22nd as to whether they want MEP representatives that promote equal rights not only in the UK, but throughout Europe and indeed, throughout the world, or a party that promotes bigotry and intolerance against, it would seem, women, gays and immigrants of all categories today, and heaven knows what tomorrow.

Medway Liberal Democrats believe that the people of Medway, by and large, are thankfully too enlightened to want to pursue the latter route, in which case, it is vitally important to vote on May 22nd and to vote Liberal Democrat, the only major party of IN.
