Medway Council's £205,000 Bid Spend - Liberal Democrats Respond

Liberal Democrats are concerned about Medway Council's planned £205,000 spend, bidding for UK City of Culture 2025. The Council passed a motion in September to invest £205,000 over two years to funding a Bid Team with the money coming from council reserves, with an £150,000 of external investment to back the bid.

Alan Bullion, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Rainham & Gillingham said: "We want greater support for local arts and culture, but at this time we believe the Council should be focused on more pressing concerns across the Medway towns.

It is difficult to reconcile spending money on this bid when the Council is making cuts. Medway Residents tell us they want the money spent on core services. The priority should be to focus public spending on maintaining our essential services, as many community groups in Medway are feeling the continuing effects of financial hardship."
