Local Liberal Democrats are campaigning for more local renewable energy generation in Medway
Medway Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign in support of the Local Electricity Bill.
The Bill, supported by a cross-party group of 300 MPs, would establish a 'Right to Local Supply' - promoting local renewable electricity suppliers by making the setup and running costs of selling renewable electricity to local customers much more affordable, for more information see attached pdf briefing on Local Electricity Bill.
John Castle, chair of Medway Liberal Democrats said; "So many Medway residents are feeling the crippling effect of spiking energy bills on their household finances. A way to bring energy bills down, and cut our reliance on fossil fuels, is to support the production of local renewable electricity. However at the moment local energy production is made almost impossible by enormous supply costs imposed by the Government."
"We need our council via a motion to send a message to Parliament to cut these unfair costs that hinder our local economy - by supporting the Local Electricity Bill. Medway Lib Dems are urging Medway Council to support the Local Electricity Bill."
"By freeing up Councils, community groups, charities and businesses to deliver low-cost, low-carbon energy to local people we can help cut energy bills to help people meet the rising cost of living, and generate income for our local economy."

Background: Community-scale renewables are a great solution; providing green, clean, energy that stimulates local economies and reduces our dependence on skyrocketing overseas fuels. But unfair regulations and disproportionate costs are stifling opportunity.
The bill is supported by 300 cross-party MPs and endorsed by the Liberal Democrats.
The Bill - if made law - would establish a Right to Local Supply, promoting local renewable electricity supplies by making the setup and running costs of selling renewable electricity to local customers affordable and proportionate to the size of the supply company.
Power For People - the organisation campaigning for the bill - are asking for councils and councillors to endorse its uptake and promote community activism for community energy.
