Liberal Democrats increase vote share in Medway Towns
Liberal Democrats had a sizeable increase in vote share in the Medway Towns.
Across Medway Liberal Democrats increased the local vote by 5% (more than the South East regional average). All 3 Candidates (Graham Colley, standing for Rochester and Strood, Alan Bullion standing for Rainham and Gillingham and David Naghi standing for Chatham and Aylesford) retained our deposits and finished 3rd in all 3 seats in the Medway Towns, we had our largest vote share in Rochester and Strood.
John Castle, spokesperson for Medway Liberal Democrats said "After 10 years in opposition, Labour have been soundly rejected by voters both locally here in Medway and nationally. This is their worst election result in living memory.
In tough circumstances the Liberal Democrat vote share increased both here in Medway and nationally. Only the Liberal Democrats can challenge the Conservatives with Labours policies and leadership proving ineffective".
There is much we can build on from here, and we will be careful to learn the lessons to build for the future. Britain still needs the Liberal Democrats, today more than ever.
